                Our Family and Travels

 

Day 5: The Old City from the Mount of Olives. The Temple Mount from the Chapel  of the Ascension. The Garden of Gethsemane. The model of 1st century Jerusalem at the Israel Museum (also site of the Dead Sea Scrolls (no pictures allowed). The model is too big to get in one shot. Ein Karem: site of John the Baptist's birth place & site of the Visitation of St. Mary to Elizabeth. 






Day 6: Mary's tomb (there is a competing one in Syria). King David's tomb (really?). Art from St. Peter Gallicantu Church. This is also the place where Caiaphas' home was excavated. It includes jail cells and a torture room.


Day 7: Sunday - worship at St. George's Cathedral (Episcopal) and meeting with Bishop Suheil. (no pics)


Day 8 - We first visited Bethesda, next to the Church of St. Anne (Mary's mother) and the start of the Stations of the Cross on the Via Dolorosa. We were asked not take pictures during our walk. The final stations are in the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. The left photo was taken the next day of Jesus' tomb in the Holy Sepulcher.  


Day 9, the final day - The Western (Wailing) Wall. The Dome of the Rock on the Temple Mount.  A monument marking the place where the temple was located. Group photo in front of the Wailing Wall. Church of the Holy Sepulcher: The crucifixion site and the stone where Jesus' body was washed before burial.
