We went on a tour of Italy. Late in the tour we went into Switzerland. It was also in Stresa that we took a train to Frankfurt, after the tour ended, to see Suzie's brother Jeff and his wife Marion. Each section below is based on the places we stayed. We have no new unique photos of Frankfurt. Except for the Rome area, the Italian photo areas are labeled by province.

Near the Colosseum

.

There were many rooms below the floor of the Colosseum where gladiators, boats, animals, and other spectacular things were kept.

.

This statue by Michelangelo is in St. Peter in Chains church.

Built with Roman concrete and dedicated to all the gods, this building has lasted for many centuries. A long time ago, it was dedicated as a church.

There is a long museum to walk through on the way to the Sistine Chapel. There are amazing works of art both sacred and secular. There are many pieces from the Roman Empire.

This is a mural in the museum.
A note: photos are not allowed in the Sistine Chapel.

A selfie. The high altar is in the far back. Deacons were being ordained while we were there.

Michelangelo's other great work is in St. Peter's.

We stayed in Pompeii (not in the ancient city),which was the highlight of this part of the tour.

A selfie in Pompeii with Mt Vesuvius in the background.

Main street

The outline of victim's bodies was filled with plaster, which gave us what the person looked like at death.

.

We had lunch at a winery outside of Sorrento.

We were introduced to Limoncello and liked it.We took some home.

Entering Florence, we went first to see Michelangelo's David.

Other art works at the Accademia.

Florence cathedral with the baptistry in the foreground.

Courtyard of the Statues

Tuscan winery where we ate lunch.

We had dinner here.

We returned to the bell tower. We don't know the people in the photo.

The tower was closed during our first visit to Pisa in 2009. It was nice to see it reopened.

Our next stop was Venice. Venice is a city on various islands. The city's highways are on water.

Some islands are so close that they are connected by bridges.

We couldn't be in Venice without a gondola ride.

We didn't have time to wait in line and see the interior of the cathedral. Inside the cathedral are housed many items stolen from Constantinople.

.

On our way to Stresa, we stopped in Verona.

Verona has its own Roman amphitheater.

Verona is home to Juliette and her love, Romeo. Here is Juliette's balcony and a statue of her in the background.

Stresa is on Lake Maggiore.

Our hotel. Craig believes it is haunted.

Stresa at night.

At Simplon Pass, there is a nine meter statue called the Golden Eagle Monument. It symbolizes Switzerland's defense during WWII.
