Craig was born in Salt Lake City, moved to southern California when he was 1, moved back to Salt lake City when was 9 and then his family settled in the Salt lake suburb of Hunter.
A graduate of Cyprus High School, Craig moved to Tucson, University of Arizona for college, changed majors, and moved back to Salt Lake and attended the University of Utah.
It was at the Campus Christian Center at Utah that Craig met Suzanne, one of those rare Episcopalians.
They became engaged and both dropped out of school. They were married October 7, 1972.
Craig later went back to school at Westminster College, Salt Lake City, graduating with a degree in economics in 1986.
