Our Family and Travels
The Israel Museum is complex similar to the Smithsonian. In that complex is a model of 1st century Jerusalem. It is quite large. The close-up is of the temple mount. The structure to the right of the temple is the Antonia Fortress, a Roman garrison, to watch for riots on the temple grounds. The Shrine of the Book contains the Dead Sea Scrolls (no pictures are allowed inside). The roof resembles the top of the urns that contained the scrolls outside of Qumran.
The walls of the Old City took a lot of bullet holes. It appears the disciples were not in the dark in the Upper Room since it has electricity. And King David's tomb.
The Church of St. Peter Gallicantu from above. From inside the church, the place where Jesus was likely hung upside down by his feet. A statue of a bound Christ.
Gethsemane (on l.). The place in the Basilica of Agony where Jesus prayed before his arrest. Larger view of the Basilica.
Jerusalem from the Mount of Olives. I don't suppose they let camels on buses. The Basilica of Agony at the Garden of Gethsemane (even though the Bible has no Garden of Gethsemane).
After long drive uphill, we came to Bethlehem. Suzie was at Jesus' birth site. The last photo is the place of the manger where Jesus was to rest. After Bethlehem, it was to Jerusalem and our last hotel.
After an overnight at the Dead Sea (and a dip in the lake) we dared to look back without becoming pillars of salt. The next stop was the fortress of Masada that fell to a Roman siege and launched the careers of two Roman emperors.
